I am a 22 year old Iraqi biologist, karateka and climate justice activist. I care deeply about narrating the climate discussion through a lens that adequately represents the challenges faced by youth today from the MENA (Middle East & North Africa) region. I do that best by raising the voices of young people in regional & international conferences and through being cofounder & Executive Director of MENA Youth Network, an organization I started with some of MENA's most prominent young environmental activists.

My region is famous for its rich culture and history, but it is also well-known for the many years of political unrest that caused a developmental stagnation in many of its parts. My poem tries to highlight a very well-known presence of discrepancies in access to technologies between developed and developing countries and the status of the neglected rural communities affected by this issue. Moreover, We need to prioritize the importance of education in the lives of people everywhere. With a good education, Adil (Arabic: عادل meaning "just" or "righteous") was able to provide a better life or at least a better learning experience to all the children of his village.

Although this broad topic can be approached from several perspectives; I chose to give it one of a child living in a rural community and their first interaction with a computer- something their family couldn't afford- and how to them, the doors to an entirely new world were opened, hence the naming, "The World".

I have recently spoken about these topics as a scene-setter in Leadership Dialogue 2 of the Stockholm+50 International Meeting. You can find the link to that video here.
