As an avid social justice advocate, I combine my experience as a nonprofit development coordinator with my skills as a graphic designer and illustrator to tell stories and communicate complex ideas.
Another World Is Possible began as an outlet for me to process supreme court decisions, recent shootings, the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, the lack of action on global warming, and all the other bad things that continue to happen in our world.
I adapted the idea for a game art design class by adding characters and building out the world as different scenes in a video game in which the player, Rayne, tries to find a world that is just, full of compassion and community, and sustainable.
After the title card, Rayne begins in a barren desert. All that exists are sharp, bare trees, intimidating mountains, and crumbling rocks. This is how I imagine our world could end up with over-extraction and global warming. It is dry, hot, and lacks all the basic necessities people need to live (water, housing, food, etc.) and take care of one another (love, compassion, empathy, etc.), and any structures humans once built have fallen apart.
As Rayne progresses through the game, they’ll gain access to rain (Rayne’s namesake), companionship (with the cat Cosmo), food, housing, care, and love until they’re able to build a safe, regenerative, thriving community with NPCs.
